Special Filters

Please read the help file material about Filters and understand what Filtering is before reading this section.

Sometimes there may be desirable filtering that is difficult to set up using the regular Filters or AutoFilters features. The Special Filters is a list of additional filters that may be applied.

To use Special Filters, click on the Special Filters menu item and select the special filter desired from the dropdown list.

The "Remove All Filters" button is activated when a Special Filter is imposed - click it to view the entire list of available coins unfiltered.

Special Filters are cumulative with all other filters. That means that if you are viewing a filtered list of coins and you add another filter then you filter the already filtered list - you don't remove the current filter first. If you intended to remove the current filters first, remember to press "Remove All Filters".

Filters and Special Filters may be mixed together.

The available Special Filters are:

Has Overlay Data Filters out all coins that do not have overlays (see Overlays section in Viewing Coin Pictures)
Has Multiple Varieties Filters out all coins that do not have at least two variety categories (DDO, DDR, RPD MPD, OVD, ML).

Additional Notes:

Has Overlay Filter

Every time you restart SNV, the special filter "Has Overlay Data" will take quite a long time to run the first time you use it as all of the data files are being examined. Please be patient. After the first time, the necessary data is cached and subsequent uses of the filter will execute very quickly.

Not in CPG, Not in Fletcher, Not in CONECA

Using these filters in combination allows you to to find coins that have either been previously catalogued or not previously catalogued in the various references.

File Date Filtering

File Date Filtering provides two calendars from which you can select the range of dates for those database files you wish to include. Two forms of File Data Filtering are provided.

Creation Date Filtering

All SNV data files carry with them the date they were created. This date can never be changed no matter what you do to the file. SNV data files may be new either because a new variety was added to SNV, or because an existing data file was updated with newer information.

Local Date Filtering

Every file on your computer has its own local date. For SNV data files, the local file date may be different than the creation date of the file. This will most often be seen with downloaded updates, in which case the local file date will be the date you downloaded the file. Other operations on your local filesystem may also change the local date of the file.

Setting the start and end dates will filter the view so that you see only those files created on or after the start date and before the end date (the end date is not inclusive).

The start date is initially set to Jan. 1, 2004 (a date guaranteed to be earlier than all date file creation dates). The end date is initially set to today's date.

File Date Filtering is primarily useful for seeing which SNV files are new. You will most likely use Local Date Filtering to see which new files have been downloaded.
